Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite Console

Nintendo DS Console is a dual-screen handheld game developed and manufactured by Nintendo. The video console Nintendo DS features a clamshell design, with two LCD screen inside. The bottom one or the lower display being a touchscreen. You can use Nintendo DS stylus for game played on the touchscreen. It allows users directly interactive with the game.

Traditional controls are located on either side of the touchscreen. In the left is a D-pad, with a narrow Power button above it, and to the right are the A, B, X, and Y buttons, with narrow Select and Start buttons above them. Shoulder buttons L and R are located on the upper corners of the lower half of the system.

Nintendo DS Console  featured a build in microphone which can be used for many purposes such as  speech recognition (Nintendogs, Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day!), chatting online between and during gameplay sessions (Pokémon Diamond and Pearl), and minigames that require the player to blow or shout into the microphone.

Video Console Nintendo DS  also support wireless (Wi-Fi) standards. This NDS Wi-Fi  connection service allows players interact with each other within short range (10-30 m, depending on conditions).

On March 2, 2006 Nintendo realised Nintendo DS Lite Console, a redisign of Nintendo DS Console. The DS Lite is a slimmer, more lightweight redesign version of the Nintendo DS and has brighter screens.

Differences between the DS Lite and the original DS

  • Nintendo DS Lite Console is lighter and smaller than Nintendo DS Console
  • Nintendo DS lite Console has extended battery life compared to NDS.
  • Brighter, more durable top and bottom LCD screens, with four levels of brightness. Designed to be more resistant to shock. The option of turning the backlight off in the main menu has been removed.
  • Larger stylus, making it easier to hold.  The stylus is now also side-loaded and located next to the power switch, making it easier to reach when needed.
  • The D-pad is smaller than the DS, but the A, B, X, and Y buttons retain the same dimensions.
  • The Start and Select buttons have been relocated under the A, B, X, and Y buttons, and are smaller than the original buttons.
  • Twelve colors: Ice Blue, Enamel Navy, Polar White (Crystal White in Japan), Coral Pink (Noble Pink in Japan), Onyx Black (Jet Black in Japan), Metallic Rose, Gloss Silver, Crimson/Black, Cobalt/Black, Turquoise, Red, and Green .
  • The power button, originally located above the D-pad, is now a power slider and is relocated to the right side of the device.
  • The power and charging indicator lights are now located on the right hinge, as opposed to being below the bottom screen in the original model.
  • The redesign of the system has caused Game Boy Advance games to protrude out of the system by 1 cm. In addition, to provide a seamless surface and to keep out dirt, dust, and other debris, a filler cartridge is included.
  • The processors are the same as the DS, but made on a smaller custom process so they require much less power.
  • The built-in microphone, originally located below the bottom screen, is now located between the top and bottom screens of the DS Lite.
